Wow

Just wow! That is the best words to describe the last few days. I am still planning on posting my labor story, but I know that I won't be forgetting that anytime soon. However, I am positive that with the lack of sleep that I have, these last few days will be quickly forgotten.

I'll start with Cade. He is the calmest baby that I have ever seen. He is so laid back, and rarely cries. He stays awake alot and just stares at things. Nothing seems to bother him, including formula. He was born weighing 5 lbs 6 oz, and left the hospital weighing 5 pounds. If I had to pick a downfall, it would probably be eating. He is much lazier with eating, and we struggle with keeping him awake for feedings.

Then there is Grant. He is a bit more challenging. He is feisty, to say the least. His first several days have been spent fussing. I now think that I know the reason. Even though they have been changed to Pro.sobee, I don't think that he is tolerating it very well at all. Starting tonight, we have him on total breast milk.

Breastfeeding is going extremely well, despite getting a rough start. I knew going it to this that 100% breastfeeding the boys was not what I wanted. I wanted the whole family to be able to participate in the feedings. I had originally decided to pump 1/2 and use formula for the other 1/2. I struggled with the logistics of this, and was hoping to get some guidance at the hospital. Unfortunately, this advice wasn't free flowing. Just as I was ready to give up, I met with the most amazing lactation consultant. She was so helpful, and very supportive of my plans. She suggested that even though I have the Medel.a Pump in st.yle, it would probably be better to use a hospital grade pump for the first 2 weeks to establish supply. I think that she is right. I seem to have a pretty good supply established already.

The only problem is that even though I am pumping 50-60 mL per session, which is plenty to feed 1/2 breast milk, I feel like Grant will do much better on 100% breast milk. The are currently eating about 40 mL each per feeding. So, as of right now, Grant is getting the majority of the good stuff, and I have started pumping every 2 1/2 hours in hopes of being able to provide Cade with just breast milk too.

Now that I have bored all of you, I am off the get a few more hours, or minutes of sleep.
